Linux support (from ICTS) at UCT

Information and Communication Technology Services (ICTS) just sent out the following email message to announce that they are “gearing up” to provide support for SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) and Ubuntu at UCT.

Dear ICTS Customer,
 
ICTS is gearing up to offer support for Linux.
 
Support will be offered at different levels, depending on the distribution
used, for the following distributions:
 
1. *SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 (SLED 10) with service pack 1*
/SLED 10 /with Service Pack 1, the most recent Enterprise SUSE
     version, is compatible with our Novell servers
     and is included in UCT's Novell Academic License Agreement (ALA).
 
     /Level of support offered/: Gearing up for eventual full support.
 
       ICTS will attempt to solve any problem associated with this
       distribution. However, as some research may be required, such
       support calls may take longer to resolve.
 
2. *Ubuntu ver 6.06 upwards*      /Ubuntu/ uses the Debian platform which
is currently a popular
     Linux standard on campus and is free.
 
   /Level of support offered/: Partial support
 
       ICTS will attempt to solve any problem associated with this
       distribution. However, such support calls will not receive high
       priority.
 
 
     *Installation and support*
 
   * You can borrow the /SLED 10 SP1/ or /Ubuntu/ installation disks
     from the ICTS Front Office.

   * Use ZENworks Linux Management

The Linux Enthusiasts Group <http://www.leg.uct.ac.za/> (LEG) at UCT is
the University of Cape Town branch of the Cape Linux Users Group. Their
site focuses on the use of Linux, and other free software at UCT (a useful
service to staff and students, but not part of the official ICTS Linux
support structure).
