The Linux Enthusiasts Group (LEG) is a Society at the University of Cape Town, affiliated with the Cape Linux Users Group. This site focuses exclusively on the use of Linux, and other free software at UCT. LEG isn't currently a user group in it's own right. If you want help with linux, you should join the CLUG Mailing lists.

LEG Needs Hard Drives

LEG’s mirrors are constantly growing and needing more disk space. In 2005, CLUG bought a new server with 900G disk space for us. We filled this in a matter of months, and have been fighting a losing disk space battle ever since.

Ubuntu Beryl mirror

PCLinuxOS mirror

We now mirror PCLinuxOS. Thanks to demand from Arno (the new CS TSL Admin).

Medibuntu mirror added.

We now have a mirror of the Medibuntu add-on repository for Ubuntu. Medibuntu (Multimedia, Entertainment & Distractions In Ubuntu) is a repository of packages that cannot be included into the Ubuntu distribution for legal reasons (copyright, license, patent, etc). They are legal in South Africa, however, since we have neither DMCA nor software patents. Medibuntu includes libdvdcss2 (allowing you to watch encrypted DVDs) and w32codecs (allowing you to watch videos recorded in proprietary codecs).

Welcome to the new LEG Site

The old LEG site has been around for a very long time. It pre-dates the Larry Ewing Tux Logo, and appeared around the same time as Linux 2.0.

Over the 10+ years since, it has gained a mountain of unmaintained, and inaccurate pages. It’s now time to put them to bed and create a new LEG website.

Welcome, subscribe to our RSS feed, join our mailing lists, and enjoy :-)
